Discontinuation of APICS CIRM

Since 1991 APICS has offered the APICS Certified in Integrated Resource Management (CIRM) program but for over a decade the number of candidates taking APICS CIRM exams has been steadily decreasing. APICS has conducted market research to better understand the reasons for this decline and to analyze the future potential for the program. The research has indicated the prospects for finding a market substantial enough to sustain the program into the future are very poor. In consideration of the present decline and limited potential for future growth, the APICS Board of Directors has decided to discontinue offering the APICS CIRM program.

 

APICS has tried to contact all APICS CIRM designees and APICS CIRM candidates to notify them of the discontinuation of the APICS CIRM program.

 

The APICS CIRM examinations will continue to be offered until June 1, 2008. Candidates will have until that date to pass the required five examinations. Individuals who have not passed all five exams by June 1, 2008 will not be certified. The June 1, 2008, deadline means that the final administration of APICS CIRM exams internationally will take place during the March-April 2008 administrations.

 

There is no maintenance requirement for the APICS CIRM program and there is no expiration date for the individual exams. Therefore, APICS will continue to maintain records of the individuals who have earned the APICS CIRM designation or who have taken one or more APICS CIRM examinations. Individuals who earn the APICS CIRM designation by June 1, 2008, may continue to list the CIRM initials after their names, and APICS will maintain information regarding the APICS CIRM program and the requirements for earning the APICS CIRM designation. APICS will also continue to verify APICS CIRM certification for employers who inquire about credentials.

 

APICS CIRM reference materials and lapel pins will continue to be listed in the educational resources catalog and sold while the program remains active and candidates are still preparing to take the APICS CIRM exams. However, purchasers will be advised that the CIRM program will be ending and that all purchases of APICS CIRM materials will be nonrefundable. Sales of APICS CIRM materials will be discontinued after June 1, 2008.
